About Chakra Taal
Chakra Taal is where rhythm meets soul. Formed by three classically trained tabla players, this trio fuses the sounds of tabla, handpan, and violin into a mesmerizing tapestry of sound. Named in homage to both chakra (energy centers) and taal (rhythm cycles), Chakra Taal crafts melodic journeys rooted in Indian classical rhythm and global soundscapes.
Pitambar Dayal
Pitambar Dayal is a classically-trained tabla player based in Los Angeles. With roots in Hindustani vocal music and harmonium, Pitambar rediscovered his Indian heritage as an adult through the intricate rhythms of the tabla. He has since performed across the United States, accompanying vocalists and instrumentalists at festivals, private events, and weddings.
In 2016, Pitambar caught national attention with his viral video “Student Raps Resume at Career Fair,” which not only landed him his dream job as an engineer but also opened doors to composing music for commercial and digital media. Whether on stage or in the studio, Pitambar’s work bridges the classical and the contemporary—captivating audiences and collaborators alike.
Anish Raguraman
Anish Raguraman is a multi-instrumentalist musician and rhythmic explorer based in Oceanside, California. His journey into music started unexpectedly—through a Tim Ferriss podcast that led him down the rabbit hole of the handpan’s meditative, otherworldly sound. He was instantly hooked and soon began carving out a voice of his own on the handpan.
Anish first encountered the tabla at a local kirtan, where a lifelong, latent love for percussion found its home. Utterly captivated by its tonal quality, complexity, and soul, he began formal classical tabla training. Its intricate rhythmic cycles now deeply influence his approach to the handpan—blending flow and structure, melody and groove. His sound is grounded yet expansive, inviting listeners into a space where stillness, movement, and introspection all have room to breathe.
Kaiden Surti
Kaiden Surti is a 14-year-old musician and composer trained in Western classical violin and Indian classical tabla. He attends the Orange County School of the Arts where he is a member of the Montage performing group, collaborating with dancers, singers, and instrumentalists across the community.
Kaiden’s compositions span genres and cultures, with notable works including Turning Winter, premiered by the Prelude Chamber Strings Orchestra, and Hear Me, a tabla and violin concerto that won the PTA Reflections Outstanding Interpretation award. His fusion piece We Beat Together was selected for the NPR KCRW Young Creators Project, aired on the KCRW radio, and performed live at School Night at Bardot in Hollywood. Kaiden has performed at diverse venues ranging from concert halls, festivals, private events, churches, and temples. Kaiden began composing at age 9 and continues to push musical boundaries while honoring tradition, aiming to spark a conversation about creating music that inspires.
